This guided nature walk organised by the CAM Committee through the forest of knowledge, Rimba Ilmu, within the University of Malaya campus at 8.30am on Saturday December 12 met with positive response. Twelve alumni and 11 accompanying persons turned up to observe the riches of nature and biodiversity in the park within the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

The experience was of high quality due to the expertise of the guide – a conservationist and natural resource expert – Surin Suksuwan. A volunteer in Rimba Ilmu for many years, Surin initiated this activity when he approached the Committee to lead the walk through the park. The Committee seized upon his offer and the event became a reality.

Adding to the quality of the experience on the day was the presence of other conservation experts – Elango Velautham and Dr Shawn Cheng, both alumni, and Dr Sugumaran Manickam, the Head of Rimba Ilmu. They provided additional insights with their contributions. When the tour ended three hours later, alumni requested that the Committee organise such guided walks in nature as a regular feature of its activities.
