Launch of Chevening Talk Series in Nusajaya, Johor

Three members of the Chevening Alumni Malaysia (CAM) Committee – Nithi Nesadurai, Sharifah Bakar Ali and Wan Djawad – travelled to Nusajaya in the southern-most state of Johor to attend the launch of the Chevening Talk Series (CTS) on Friday, February 26. The event was organised by the British High Commission (BHC).

CAM was present to support the initiatives taken by British High Commissioner Vicki Treadell and the BHC to undertake outreach activities in nearly every state in Malaysia. Also, as events were held to which Chevening alumni were invited, the Committee could meet and engage with alumni based outside Kuala Lumpur who turned up for these activities.

The main objective of the CTS is to inspire, educate and engage like-minded Malaysians on a topic related to the United Kingdom’s priority areas, and to promote ideas worth sharing and connect with like-minded peers, including non-alumni.

The launch event of the CTS was a forum on Entrepreneurship. Chaired by CAM Honorary Secretary, Sharifah Ali, it featured three panelists of whom two – Bernard Chauly and Khoo Kay Peng – were Chevening alumni. As Bernard, a film director, and Khoo, a global educator, were currently functioning in the international arena, the event provided an opportunity for CAM to re-engage with them.

The Committee was also fortunate to meet and engage with Dr Ian Goon, Derek Cheah and Yun Chin Sing, who were alumni based in the southern region. They were invited to a regional outreach dinner for alumni hosted by the Committee in Johor Bahru the following week, on March 4.
