On Friday March 4, four members of the Chevening Alumni Malaysia (CAM) Committee made a road trip to Johor Bahru in the southern-most state of Johor to meet and engage with alumni living in the city. It was part of the Committee’s efforts to engage with alumni outside the capital of Kuala Lumpur, where the bulk of its activities took place.
Committee members, Nithi Nesadurai, Laila Wilfred, Shamila Neelakandan and Wan Djawad, hosted Derek Cheah and Yun Chin Sing for dinner at the Grand Gem restaurant at the Grand Bluewave Hotel. Nithi and Wan Djawad had met both of them a week earlier at the launch of the Chevening Talk Series (CTS) event in Nusajaya, also in Johor, by the British High Commission.
Conversation over dinner was very cordial and productive. Among the topics raised were for them to become signed up members of CAM. The readiness of the Committee to create a role of a regional coordinator who could be its representative in the south, and organise activities of relevance to the region under the CAM umbrella, were also highlighted.
